Consultation:
Ilfracombe Infant and Nursery School: Proposal to lower the age range
UPDATE April 2022
Following completion of the statutory process and consultation, Devon County Council’s Cabinet have approved the proposal to lower the age range of Ilfracombe Infant and Nursery School from 3-7 to 2-7 with effect from 25 April 2022.
Ilfracombe Infant and Nursery School is a Community School with a registered age range of 3-7 years of age. The school has a nursery, located on the school site in a separate building, with generous outdoor space. The Nursery class provides places for 3- and 4-year-olds.
Devon County Council is now consulting on a proposal to lower the age range of the school from 3-7 to 2-7 years of age from April 2022. A change to the age range of a Community School requires a statutory process to be followed which includes a consultation and formal representation period.
As a temporary measure, due to the demand for places for 2-year-olds in the area, an extended service provision has been set up so that the school can admit 2-year-olds to the Nursery class before the age range of the school is formally lowered.
Parents will still need to make a separate application to Devon County Council for a place in the Reception class.
There will be no effect to the school’s published admission number for school aged children and the proposal will not put pressure on classroom space as the 2-year-olds will be accommodated within the existing nursery provision. No capital funding is required for this proposal.
If the decision is made to proceed further with the proposals, then the timetable for the remainder of the process (assuming agreement to each stage) is likely to be:
Brief Notice issued and 4-week period for responses – March 2022
Devon County Council makes decision – April 2022
Implementation – 25 April 2022
