The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has asked Devon County Council to work with other councils in the area to develop a proposal for local government reorganisation.

Devon County Council has engaged politicians, businesses, emergency services, health services, educators and other representatives of local communities to gain insight into potential options and submitted an interim report to ministers.

It will continue to share information related to finance and demand for council services with these stakeholders and work with them to co-design final proposals for LGR, which are due to be submitted on November 28. The council wants a proposal which puts residents’ needs first and will provide efficient and effective services which are locally accountable.
