Good news for Chulmleigh and Ilfracombe as funding for two new projects is agreed
Posted on: 10 September 2019
At a meeting of North Devon Council Strategy and Resources Committee on 2 September, councillors agreed to allocate over £38,000 of S106* funding for Ilfracombe and Chulmleigh. The funding will go towards two projects which will help to improve open spaces in the towns.
- £26,183 for a new adventure play area at Chulmleigh playing field
- £12,269 towards illuminations for Ilfracombe around southern slopes gardens and the seafront
Work will begin on Chulmleigh’s new adventure playground in October, with completion due by January 2020. There will be up up 22 items of new adventure equipment and safety surfacing.
This autumn, new lights will be installed to lighten, brighten and modernise Ilfracombe seafront and southern slopes gardens with new lamps and LED colour changing lighting. It is hoped that the new lighting will encourage more people to use the open space after dark by making it a safer and more attractive place to visit.
Leader of North Devon Council, Councillor David Worden, says: “S106 funding, made as part of major planning applications, allows the council to give back to our communities in a meaningful way. The funding for these two projects will provide much needed facilities which will help to improve public spaces in both towns.”
*Section 106 (S106) is money paid to the council by developers as part of the planning conditions of planning applications. The money can only be used for certain things, but is used primarily for public open space projects.Posted in: Leisure
