There’s just ten days to go until Barnstaple plays host to an exciting new festival, which will showcase a range of adrenaline sports and provide a day of entertainment for the whole family.

The Urban Sports Festival will hit the town on Sunday 8 September, and aims to give non-mainstream sports a platform to their core communities as well as to the wider public. The free, one-day event will celebrate the participants of urban sports, as well as providing an opportunity for people, both young and old, to try these sports and get involved.

Highlights of the festival-style event include skateboarding, BMX competitions and demonstrations, scooter sessions, roller-skating, parkour, have-a-go sessions, street food, live music, stalls and traders. All of this will take place at various locations across the town:

  • Bogey Trails, Rock Park, 11am – 4pm
  • Rock Park Skatepark, 10am – 4pm
  • The Square, throughout the day
  • The Pannier Market, 10am – 4pm
  • The Strand, throughout the day
  • Leisure Centre, 1pm – 4pm

Barnstaple Town Centre Manager, Hannah Harrington says “Barnstaple’s first Urban Sports Festival is a matter of days away now and we can’t wait. This free to attend event will be a great day out for the whole family, with plenty of fun and experiences on offer for children and adults alike. Don’t miss out; come along and enjoy the day with us.”

North Devon Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Economic development and regeneration, Councillor Malcolm Prowse says: “We are perfectly placed in Barnstaple to host the Urban Sports Festival and we are very proud to be welcoming such an exciting array of sports and events to our town. I hope the people of North Devon will come along in their droves to enjoy all of the free entertainment and opportunities on offer across Barnstaple.”
