I started working for Devon County Council in 2012 as an apprentice. In this role I completed my NVQ level 2 and 3 whilst developing relevant skills such as interview and presentation techniques. The experience I gained from my apprenticeship definitely provided me the foundations to go on to build a career within Devon County Council. Since I completed my apprenticeship I have gain promotions within the Economy, Enterprise and Skills team. I am now an Economic Development Officer, leading and supporting on various projects across Devon.
I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for the County Council. I chose Devon because as a large employer I felt there would likely be greater opportunities for progression and development. Having lived in Devon all my life, I also liked the feeling of serving and giving something back to my community.
I have found there to be a very positive attitude, work environment and great support for me from colleagues and managers. The Council also backs flexible working for employees, with good quality IT equipment to make effective remote and home working a reality. On top of that I enjoy living in Exeter and the associated easy access to the coastline, local beaches and the Moors
