I completed my placement with the Children and Families Team at Devon County Council in the last year of my course with the University of Plymouth. I enjoyed it so much that I applied for the assessed and supported year in employment (ASYE) as a newly qualified social worker.
During my placement and my time as an employee, I have been made to feel really welcome. The team is so supportive, and my colleagues always make time to explain anything I don’t understand.
Senior management are very approachable and work with us on a day to day basis. The atmosphere within the team is very positive and everyone shares resources and offers help to one another.
My induction was great. The top people within the Council came to say “Hi” and welcome us to the organisation – that really makes you feel valued as an employee. I have also been lucky enough to go on lots of other training since I joined.
The best thing about my job is working with people and directly with children. I also like the fact there is potential to work across different teams within the department so I can broaden my experience.
