Mark Doyle - Admissions Officer

Mark

Job title: Admissions Officer

Area of work: School admissions

I joined Devon County Council as an apprentice in 2009. The apprenticeship scheme is a great initiative as it allows you the opportunity to learn and gain experience at the same time.

I successfully secured a permanent position at the Customer Service Centre (CSC) after completing my Level 3 NVQ in Customer Service and Business Admin.

The CSC is an ideal starting place if you are looking to work for DCC, as you handle a wide variety of diverse queries, and gain an overview of how the Council works.

I took on the role as Deputy Performance Supervisor at the CSC. This role entails managing the day to day running of the Centre. Carrying out this task aided my development, and increased my confidence in managing, and supporting others.

In August 2018, I changed job roles, and successfully gained a place with the School Admissions Service. Since then I have rapidly progressed to a fully-fledged admissions officer.

I am really enjoying my time in Admissions, I feel a sense of achievement knowing that I have played a part in helping children gain places at their desired schools.

The Admissions Team is close-knit and the support of my colleagues whilst learning the job role has been greatly appreciated.

County Hall is a great place to work. I enjoy going to the gym during my lunch break and utilising the shop for bacon baps when required.

I feel very lucky to live in Devon as I love to go surfing in north Devon and having recently moved to Starcross on the Exe Estuary, I can’t wait to use the Exe-Trail cycle path and take in some of the fantastic views.
