After graduating from Plymouth University with a degree in Environmental Science and working in other waste management roles, I was offered the position of Senior Waste Management Officer (Special Projects) at Devon County Council in 2003. I’ve been working for Devon ever since and I’ve stayed because of the continued support both professionally and personally.
I’ve enjoyed being able to work in partnership with a wide range of organisations and individuals, developing and supporting educational and community-based projects that I feel passionate about. I’ve also been supported to undertake training at a pace that suits me and recognises my family commitments.
I really value the flexible working opportunities at Devon County Council. It’s meant I can work part-time, working more hours during school term time and less during the school holidays, supporting my children when they need me most and reducing child care costs. With the continuing support of my managers, I’m now planning to gradually increase my working hours as my children become less dependent on me.
