Infection can be transferred from used items of clothing ( service users clothes or staff work wear) linen ( sheets, bedding, towels) and the environments in which they are laundered / stored. Therefore effective laundry management is essential to prevent cross infection between people and to protect staff that transport and handle used laundry/linen.

Guidance on infection control in linen and laundry in Care homes ( including respite homes) can be found in
pages 59-62: Linen and laundry

Also: Infection Control Leads for residential and respite homes may also find this short document helpful in writing guidance for staff on the handling of linen and laundry.
