The Care Certificate requires that all adult social care staff undertake a level of training in dementia – mainly around ensuring that person centred support is given. This includes clerical staff, cooks, handypersons and housekeepers.

Dementia awareness is core for Dementia Support Workers and can be accessed as required by all other services.
It should be impressed on staff that the term ‘people living with dementia, and their families’ should be used to ensure staff focus on the person first and see the dementia as one aspect of the individual’s life, and on how staff can support the person and their families to have a good life.
