Mist below #denburydown #denburyhillfort - Apparently the Celt tribe of Dumnonii held out here against the Saxons advancing from the Teign Estuary. The most popular interpretation of 'Dumnonii' is "deep valley dwellers" but it has also been suggested that it comes from a Celtic tribal name derived from the name of a goddess, Domnu, "Goddess of the Deep". Folklore says that she is most potent in deep sea, swirling waters and misty valleys.
