It grows in clumps and can reach a height of 3 metres. Japanese Knotweed has a thick bamboo like stem which has a red and green pattern. Its leaves are light green, broad and triangular in shape. It can also have small white flowers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/japanese-knotweed.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-354\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-354 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/japanese-knotweed.jpg\" alt=\"japanese knotweed \" width=\"210\" height=\"106\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li class=\"accordion-item\" data-accordion-item>\r\n<a href=\"#mac2\" id=\"head2\" role=\"tab\" class=\"accordion-title\" aria-controls=\"mac2\">Common Ragwort <\/a><div id=\"mac2\" aria-labelledby=\"head2\" class=\"accordion-content\" data-tab-content><div class=\"targetclass\" >\n<p>Common Ragwort is highly poisonous to cattle and other animals, however not harmful to humans. This weed is a stout ragged plant which can grow to a height of 1 metre. It has long thin toothed leaves which are green on the top and have a whitish underside. It also has large clusters of yellow flowers measuring approximately 2cm across.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/common-ragwort.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-356\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-356 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/common-ragwort.jpg\" alt=\"common ragwort\" width=\"208\" height=\"138\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li class=\"accordion-item\" data-accordion-item>\r\n<a href=\"#mac3\" id=\"head3\" role=\"tab\" class=\"accordion-title\" aria-controls=\"mac3\">Curled Dock <\/a><div id=\"mac3\" aria-labelledby=\"head3\" class=\"accordion-content\" data-tab-content><div class=\"targetclass\" >\n<p>Curled Dock occurs most commonly in fields and particularly in drier soils. It is a very resilient plant, it seeds can survive up to 70 years underground before growing. This plant may grow to 1.2 metres in height and has leaves which grow in a long thin heart shape and can reach 30cm in length. The leaves sprout from its bottom section and on its upper part it has flowering stems which are reddish-brown in colour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/curled-dock.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-357\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-357 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/curled-dock-150x149.jpg\" alt=\"curled dock\" width=\"150\" height=\"149\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li class=\"accordion-item\" data-accordion-item>\r\n<a href=\"#mac4\" id=\"head4\" role=\"tab\" class=\"accordion-title\" aria-controls=\"mac4\">Broad-Leaved Dock <\/a><div id=\"mac4\" aria-labelledby=\"head4\" class=\"accordion-content\" data-tab-content><div class=\"targetclass\" >\n<p>The Broad-Leaved Dock is very similar to the Curled Dock, only with wider leaves which can have wavy edges.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/broad-leaved-dock.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-358\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-358 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/broad-leaved-dock-150x103.jpg\" alt=\"broad leaved dock\" width=\"150\" height=\"103\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li class=\"accordion-item\" data-accordion-item>\r\n<a href=\"#mac5\" id=\"head5\" role=\"tab\" class=\"accordion-title\" aria-controls=\"mac5\">Spear-Thistle <\/a><div id=\"mac5\" aria-labelledby=\"head5\" class=\"accordion-content\" data-tab-content><div class=\"targetclass\" >\n<p>Spear Thistle is a native weed which can grow to between 1-2.5 metres tall. Its leaves are very long and spiny growing up to 25cm long. Its most striking feature is its spiky thistle flowers which are reddish pink in colour on the top and green on the bottom thorny section and around 2-4cm across.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/spear-thistle.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-359\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-359 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/spear-thistle-150x132.jpg\" alt=\"spear thistle\" width=\"150\" height=\"132\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li class=\"accordion-item\" data-accordion-item>\r\n<a href=\"#mac6\" id=\"head6\" role=\"tab\" class=\"accordion-title\" aria-controls=\"mac6\">Creeping Thistle <\/a><div id=\"mac6\" aria-labelledby=\"head6\" class=\"accordion-content\" data-tab-content><div class=\"targetclass\" >\n<p>Creeping Thistle is a smaller relative of the Spear Thistle which grows to between 1-1.5 metres tall. It has long thin barbed leaves and a thin stem. It will also grow a deep root system making it strong and perseverant. Its flowering thistle heads are pinky purple in colour and less spiky than the Spear Thistle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/creeping-thistle.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-360\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-360 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2016\/02\/creeping-thistle-150x77.jpg\" alt=\"creeping thistle\" width=\"150\" height=\"77\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li class=\"accordion-item\" data-accordion-item>\r\n<a href=\"#mac7\" id=\"head7\" role=\"tab\" class=\"accordion-title\" aria-controls=\"mac7\">Giant Hogweed <\/a><div id=\"mac7\" aria-labelledby=\"head7\" class=\"accordion-content\" data-tab-content><div class=\"targetclass\" >\n<p>Giant hogweed is a tall, cow parsley-like plant with thick bristly stems that are often purple-blotched and it\u2019s sap can cause severe skin burns. The flower heads can be as large as 60cm (2ft) across. Giant Hogweed can reach a height of 3.5m (11.5ft) or more and has a spread of about 1-2m (3.5-7ft).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2018\/05\/Giant-Hogweed.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1906 size-thumbnail alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2018\/05\/Giant-Hogweed-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Giant Hogweed, tall, cow parsley like plant with thick bristly stems \" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li class=\"accordion-item\" data-accordion-item>\r\n<a href=\"#mac8\" id=\"head8\" role=\"tab\" class=\"accordion-title\" aria-controls=\"mac8\">Himalayan Balsam <\/a><div id=\"mac8\" aria-labelledby=\"head8\" class=\"accordion-content\" data-tab-content><div class=\"targetclass\" >\n<p>Himalayan balsam is a tall growing annual, 2-3m (6-10ft) in height. Between June and October it produces clusters of purplish pink (or rarely white) helmet-shaped flowers.<\/p>\n<p>The flowers are followed by seed pods that open explosively when ripe. Himalayan balsam grows rapidly and\u00a0spreads quickly, smothering other vegetation as it goes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2018\/05\/Himalayan-Balsam.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1907 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/106\/2018\/05\/Himalayan-Balsam-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Himalayan Balsam is a tall growing annual.
