{"id":24,"date":"2016-01-27T14:49:47","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T14:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/fly-tipping"},"modified":"2020-03-18T16:15:57","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T16:15:57","slug":"fly-tipping","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/wasteandrecycling\/fly-tipping\/","title":{"rendered":"Litter and fly-tipping"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Clean Devon<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cleandevon.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Clean Devon<\/a> is a local partnership website offering advice and guidance for litter and fly-tipping.<\/p>\n<h3>Litter<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/neighbouring-authorities\/\">District councils<\/a> are normally responsible for the collection of litter on public land.<\/p>\n<p>If you are undertaking a community\/group litter picking event, we advise that you discuss your arrangements with the local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/neighbouring-authorities\/\">district council<\/a> who may be able to collect the litter you collect from a convenient place near the event&#8217;s location.<\/p>\n<h3>Fly-tipping<\/h3>\n<p>Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste and is a criminal offence. Fly-tippers can be fined up to \u00a350,000 in Magistrates&#8217; Courts and face unlimited fines in higher courts, as well as community punishment orders or prison sentences of up to five years.<\/p>\n<p>Your local district council has a responsibility to collect fly-tipping from public land. If you see any fly-tipped waste which looks like it may be on public land please report it to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/neighbouring-authorities\/\">local district council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any information concerning the identities of individuals responsible for fly-tipping, please contact the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.environment-agency.gov.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Environment Agency<\/a>, who are responsible for enforcing the law regarding waste disposal.<\/p>\n<p>Where waste is fly-tipped on private land it is the responsibility of the landowner to arrange its collection and disposal.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tacklingflytipping.com\" rel=\"noopener\">Advice to the public and landowners on tackling and reporting fly-tipping<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What to do if you see fly-tipping<\/h4>\n<p>If you witness fly-tipping taking place, useful information to record includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>time and date of the incident<\/li>\n<li>description of person(s) dumping waste<\/li>\n<li>description of vehicle(s) involved, including registration numbers<\/li>\n<li>description of the waste dumped<\/li>\n<li>photographs, providing it is safe to obtain them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do not try to rummage through the waste yourself to look for evidence, as there may be hazardous or sharp items hidden among the waste.
