Mobility Scooters on Buses

Mobility Scooters on Buses

The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) Scooter Permit scheme provides mobility scooter users with clear guidelines on using their scooters on low-floor bus services adapted to carry wheelchairs and on how to get a permit for travel.

In order to qualify for a permit, you will need to have a Class 2 scooter* and will need to contact your local bus company for a free, simple assessment, to ensure that your scooter meets the necessary safety requirements and specifications.

See the CPT Code leaflet for more information.

In Devon, Stagecoach Southwest have signed up to the scheme and will be offering assessments and issuing permits to those who meet the required specification. If you wish to apply for a permit please contact them directly for more details.

If you are hoping to travel on a service operated by a different bus company, you may wish to contact them directly to ask about their policy on mobility scooters.

*A Class 2 scooter is one constructed or adapted to be incapable of a speed of more than 4mph
