{"id":2452,"date":"2021-09-13T13:37:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-13T12:37:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/educationfinance\/?p=2452"},"modified":"2023-03-30T12:52:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T11:52:00","slug":"general-169-schools-business-rates-and-call-for-maintained-schools-to-register-multi-use-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/support-schools-settings\/general-169-schools-business-rates-and-call-for-maintained-schools-to-register-multi-use-sites\/","title":{"rendered":"General 169: Schools\u2019 Business Rates and Call for Maintained Schools to Register Multi-Use sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ESFA has published the government response following their consultation on centralising the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/changes-to-the-payment-process-of-schools-business-rates?es_c=15FD036C30AFD0A7233ECFCF0521EE91&amp;es_cl=D370A97C219FDBB03A99FFE0A9B55B35&amp;es_id=9d%C2%A3o3\" rel=\"noopener\">payment of business rates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ESFA will cover additional rates costs associated with additional buildings on a school site which are used to deliver education for pupils at the school (for example, a sports hall that is used during school hours and at evenings by the wider community).<\/p>\n<p>They will not cover the additional rates costs associated with buildings which are not used to deliver education for pupils at the school.<\/p>\n<p>For a smooth transition to the new payment system, the ESFA encourages schools to register buildings which are not used to deliver education for pupils at the school as a separate entity on the Valuation Office Agency\u2019s (VOA) rating list.<\/p>\n<p>This ensures that two individual bills are produced, meaning the bill data uploaded to the ESFA by billing authorities will only relate to the parts of a school site used to deliver education and will exclude any other buildings.<\/p>\n<p>This is likely to apply to schools which contain:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>several service providers (for example, a private nursery attached to a primary school)<\/li>\n<li>other bodies which occupy specific buildings (for example, a caretaker\u2019s house or community swimming pool)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Any enquiries around these issues needs to be directed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/form.education.gov.uk\/en\/AchieveForms\/?form_uri=sandbox-publish:\/\/AF-Process-f9f4f5a1-936f-448b-bbeb-9dcdd595f468\/AF-Stage-8aa41278-3cdd-45a3-ad87-80cbffb8b992\/definition.json&amp;redirectlink=%2Fen&amp;cancelRedirectLink=%2Fen\" rel=\"noopener\">ESFA<\/a> and not the Local Authority.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ESFA has published the government response following their consultation on centralising the payment of business rates.
