You can use a microphone (either built-in to the device or an external one) to record this speech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few considerations would need to be made:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A quiet environment is best. Background noises, like other people talking \u2013 or even tables being tapped \/ chairs being moved, etc. can lead to inaccurate recording.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using speech to text is a skill, and it can be quite confusing at first &#8211; as well as frustrating &#8211; but it can be improved with practice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depending on what software you are using, you may also need to be connected to the internet for speech to text to work best.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using Speech to Text &#8211; Office 365 Shortcuts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Using Microsoft&#8217;s inbuilt &#8216;Dictate&#8217; function, you can use your voice to type &#8211; as long as you are signed in to an Office 365 account as it is only available to Microsoft 365 subscribers. Your child may have one provided to them by their school, so it is worth checking if they do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can access it without the software installed on your device by using a browser to visit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.office.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Link to Microsoft Office 365 online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"58\" height=\"88\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/support-schools-settings\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2022\/07\/speech-to-text-365-dictate.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9377\" style=\"width:auto;height:75px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dictate button looks like this and when clicked will start to listen to your voice. Your child may have one set up for them by their school, so it is worth checking if they do.
