It includes rape, sexual offences, stalking, domestic abuse and technology-facilitated abuse. Girls aged 10\u201315 are particularly vulnerable, especially to online harms. (<a href=\"https:\/\/post.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/post-pn-0750\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ref<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data shows that women and girls are disproportionately affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence and stalking. Girls are more likely than boys to experience sexual violence, especially online. Vulnerability to VAWG is associated with age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, migration status and geographic region. For example, Black girls are more likely to experience adultification and online abuse, and girls in care are at increased risk of intimate partner violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"why-do-young-people-use-drugs\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the \u2018manosphere\u2019?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is the \u2018manosphere\u2019?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The manosphere is a loose network of online communities, influencers and content that promote harmful ideas about gender and relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Young people may encounter this via social media, gaming platforms and video-sharing sites, often amplified by algorithms which target young boys, and skews their version of reality and expose them to pornography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The average age a child first sees pornography online is 13. In recent survey, 59% of respondents reported seeing pornography online by accident up from 38% in 2023. More than a quarter (27%) of respondents had seen online pornography by the age of 11. (<a href=\"https:\/\/eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk%2Fwpuploads%2F2025%2F08%2Fcc-sex-is-kind-of-broken-now-children-and-pornography.pdf&amp;data=05%7C02%7CSharon.Roberts%40devon.gov.uk%7C85dba852cb5640756e8908ded2c56342%7C8da13783cb68443fbb4b997f77fd5bfb%7C0%7C0%7C639179942561648624%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=ssifCdmeL%2B5Ko3xejziy3qJppmnR0ADGhbB9qEWF6OY%3D&amp;reserved=0\" rel=\"noopener\">Children\u2019s Commissioner 2025<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Content may:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Blame women for personal or social problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote male entitlement, dominance and lack of consent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage hostility towards gender equality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Normalise harmful behaviours (e.g. degrading language, harassment)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This includes spaces linked to \u2018incel\u2019 culture, misogynistic influencers, and content connected to pornography and exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"ketamine-effects\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why this matters in educational settings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reports show widespread sexual harassment and normalisation of harmful behaviours. Ofsted found that 9 in 10 girls had experienced sexist name-calling or unsolicited sexual images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In further education, provision is fragmented and RSE is not compulsory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Online, girls face exposure to violent pornography, deepfake abuse and misogynistic content. (<a href=\"https:\/\/post.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/post-pn-0750\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ref<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Public spaces, including transport, are also sites of risk. Evidence shows misogynistic attitudes are widespread among young people:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>54% of pupils (11\u201319) report hearing misogynistic comments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>37% heard comments that made them concerned about girls\u2019 safety (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/misogynistic-myths-kicked-out-of-classrooms-to-protect-children\" rel=\"noopener\">DfE, 2025<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Misogyny can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Undermine safeguarding and inclusion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to bullying, harassment and sexual violence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Link with online harm, radicalisation and poor mental health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early education and consistent responses are key to prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"physical-and-mental-health-risks\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What should staff do?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Toolkits from organisations such as NSPCC, Women\u2019s Aid and the National Education Union provide practical guidance and resources to help schools implement a whole school approach to preventing sexism, misogyny and violence against women and girls. (<a href=\"https:\/\/post.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/post-pn-0750\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ref<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"-1\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key actions for settings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/article>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.
