This may include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cntw.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/5-Ps-and-formulation-A5.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">NTW booklet formulation<\/a> or \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/happiertherapy.com\/5-ps-formulation-worksheet\/?utm_content=cmp-true\" rel=\"noopener\">The 5Ps<\/a>\u2019 \u2013 problem or presentation, perpetuating factors, predisposing factors, precipitating factors, protective or positive factors. Use our<a href=\"https:\/\/devoncc.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/s\/PublicDocs\/Education\/EcOsLzJmtZ1Dn8X7E7t-vA4B_mwrhoPZyqcOmWTuvlLezw?e=h3RvKw\" rel=\"noopener\"> 5Ps psychological formulation model<\/a> to explore a child or young person&#8217;s situation. Support with this can be accessed through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/support-schools-settings\/send\/educational-psychology\/educational-psychology-service\/\">Devon Educational Psychology Service<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manage concerns around attendance<\/strong>\u00a0using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gI27iNldCGw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATTEND Framework<\/a> as an early intervention tool to identify needs and manage the child or young person\u2019s concerns around attending school. Additionally, develop an understanding around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/support-schools-settings\/inclusion\/ebsa\/\">Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)<\/a>, and provide resources so that the right support can be accessed at the right time. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schoolwellbeingcards.co.uk\/video-tutorial\" rel=\"noopener\">School Wellbeing cards<\/a> can be used directly with the child or young person, to enable exploration of key risk factors, as well as strength and protective factors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personalised <a href=\"https:\/\/sirona-cic.org.uk\/children-services\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/01\/0305-Top-Tips-Using-Visual-Support-A.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">visual supports<\/a><\/strong> can be used to lower anxiety and support understanding of routines, for example timetables, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twinkl.co.uk\/teaching-wiki\/now-and-next-board\" rel=\"noopener\">Now and Next boards<\/a>, calendars.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Managing change is explicitly taught to lower anxiety<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sendco.co.uk\/index.php?view=article&amp;id=5:the-oops-change-in-routine-card&amp;catid=10:autism-resources\" rel=\"noopener\">Change or surprise cards<\/a> on a visual timetable might be used, initially for changes which are positive for the child or young person. Provide time for the trusted adult to talk with the child or young person about how they are feeling and address the changes that will be taking place. This may be done through drawing or using visuals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clearly support any changes to routine when a teacher or key adult is away<\/strong> by being explicit about what is happening in advance, with as much notice as possible, whilst reassuring the child or young person they will still get support. Other familiar adults can be used to check in with the child or young person.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepare for planned events outside of the &#8216;normal&#8217; timetable<\/strong>, to lower anxiety, by giving children and young people opportunities to rehearse and role play different situations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adults recognise and support both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autismeducationtrust.org.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-08\/AET-Supporting-autistic-learners-during-micro-transitions.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">micro<\/a> and macro transitions<\/strong>. Develop understanding around supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/mental-health\/children-and-young-adults\/advice-for-parents\/anxiety-in-children\/\" rel=\"noopener\">anxiety<\/a> by considering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.annafreud.org\/resources\/schools-and-colleges\/seven-ways-to-support-children-and-young-people-who-are-worried\/\" rel=\"noopener\">ways to support and consciously respond to the child or young person&#8217;s fears and anxiety<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provide support to manage anxieties and increase self-esteem<\/strong> <strong>and self-confidence<\/strong> through apps such as <a href=\"https:\/\/luminova.app\/schools\" rel=\"noopener\">Lumi Nova<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Opportunity for small group or individual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twinkl.co.uk\/blog\/beyond-the-classroom-outdoor-learning-benefits-ideas-and-resources\" rel=\"noopener\">outdoor learning experiences<\/a>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Workbooks<\/strong> can be used to support primary and secondary aged pupils with managing anxiety (Primary, Secondary and beyond).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use concrete tools<\/strong> to help the child or young person better understand anxiety and what is happening to them when they become anxious.
