Talk to them and ask what you can do to help.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t interrupt or finish the child or young person&#8217;s sentences<\/strong>. Give them plenty of time to say what they want to say.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slow down your rate of speech. <\/strong>Pause frequently and encourage the whole class to take their time when answering questions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reduce the number of questions you ask.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Acknowledge the stammering in a neutral in a matter-of-fact way<\/strong>. This helps the child feel it&#8217;s OK to stammer. You might say something like &#8220;That was a hard word to say, wasn&#8217;t it?
