They can be used with individuals who have multiple disabilities, including visual impairments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They involve making signs on a person\u2019s body to help them understand and interact with their environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some on-body signs for adults to use on a learner&#8217;s body are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Hello<\/strong><\/p><p>Place your hand against the learner\u2019s hand \u2014 palm to palm (if possible) and make a circular movement together.<\/p><\/td><td><br><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Goodbye:<\/strong><\/p><p>Lace your fingers between the learner\u2019s and make a rainbow movement together and squeeze hand in time with spoken syllables (good, squeeze, bye, squeeze)<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Ready<\/strong><\/p><p>Tap thumbs twice on front of the learner\u2019s shoulders (again in time with syllables of word)<\/p><\/td><td><br><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Wait<\/strong><\/p><p>Tap knuckles once gently but firmly against the learner\u2019s cheek.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>                                               <strong>Stop<\/strong><br><p>Squeeze the learner\u2019s upper arm once \u2014 firm pressure.<\/p><\/td><td><br><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Finish<\/strong><\/p><p>Slide hand firmly along the learner\u2019s forearm and across hand if possible.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><br><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>More<\/strong><\/p><p>Tap on the learner\u2019s hand twice.<\/p><\/td><td><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Clever<\/strong><\/p><p>Move thumb along width of the learner&#8217;s forehead.<\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important that the same signs be done consistently by all adults who support an individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are different methods of on body signing that can be used, such as Canaan Barrie or adapted BSL signs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On-body signs are very flexible and can be adapted or changed as appropriate.
