With other hand under child\u2019s thighs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adult hold child close while kneeling down onto one knee, then both knees making a sloping lap<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place child on adult\u2019s lap and allow them to slide down so that their bottom is on the floor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moving further away while supporting the child\u2019s head \/ shoulders to recline them into a lying position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Child from sitting in wheelchair to floor (lifting)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equipment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1 person<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Brakes on wheelchair, undo foot straps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adult standing or high kneeling close to chair \u2013 may raise one knee if it helps them not to twist<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove lap strap<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place arm across child\u2019s back gripping their hip<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place other hand underneath the child\u2019s thighs and lift, bringing close as soon as possible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adult hold child close while kneeling down to make a sloping lap<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place child on lap and allow them to slide down so that their bottom is on the floor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moving further away while supporting the child\u2019s head \/ shoulders will recline them into a lying position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lifting standing child<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equipment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1 person\/2 people<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adult high kneeling, child standing, place arm around child\u2019s back gripping their hip<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place other hand underneath the child\u2019s thighs, bringing in close<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raise one knee then stand or pass to second adult<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Child from wheelchair (lifting)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equipment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Chair<br><strong>(1)<\/strong> = Lead Adult<br><strong>(2)<\/strong> = Supporting Adult<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wheelchair brakes on<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(2)<\/strong> Remove foot-straps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> Remove chest strap if there is one check (2) is ready<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> Remove lap-strap, ensure child\u2019s arms are forward to help maintain flexed position (knees towards chest)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> Place hands around child\u2019s trunk with good grip around ribcage, do not lift under arms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(2)<\/strong> Place hands underneath child\u2019s thighs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> Say \u2018Ready Steady Lift\u2019 keeping child flexed to prevent extension thrust<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Child to wheelchair (lifting)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equipment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Chair<br><strong>(1)<\/strong> = Lead Adult<br><strong>(2)<\/strong> = Supporting Adult<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wheelchair brakes on<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> Hands around child\u2019s trunk with good grip around ribcage, do not lift under arms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(2)<\/strong> Hands underneath child\u2019s thighs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep child flexed to prevent extension thrust<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move to chair (should be close, preventing need to walk any distance)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> Stand close to side of chair, towards the back<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(2)<\/strong> Stand close to chair at the front<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> Say \u2018Ready Steady Down\u2019 keeping child flexed and aim child\u2019s bottom for the back of the seat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(2)<\/strong> Place child\u2019s feet on the foot plates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> Do up lap-strap and chest strap if there is one<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(2)<\/strong> Do up foot-straps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Child to chair (lifting)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equipment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Wheelchair<br>1 person<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Brakes on wheelchair<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adult standing, holding child close with arm across child\u2019s back gripping hip and other hand underneath the child\u2019s thighs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move as close to chair as possible and bend legs so that you are able to seat child into chair with their bottom to the back of the chair.
