Vocabulary Conference with Jean Gross CBE

Wednesday 6th November 2019 | Mercure Southgate Hotel, Exeter | 09:15 – 15:30

What do we mean by the word gap, and why does it matter? In her keynote Jean will explore the national policy context and fascinating facts from the latest science about how children’s language develops. She will look at the links between language and attainment and how to create communicative-supportive classroom and school environments.

This conference will be exploring the importance of addressing the word gap early but also to explore ways we can continue to develop children’s vocabulary throughout their education whatever their starting points.  From the current work Babcock LDP have been carrying out, it is clear that it is never too late to start igniting children’s interest in words and helping them grow and develop a broad, varied and rich language knowledge that will underpin their learning throughout their lives.
