Making a Difference: Intervention Programme
‘Making a Difference: developing additive reasoning’ is a comprehensive training package which explores in depth how to support understanding and address misconceptions within additive reasoning. It includes a flexible set of intervention materials, containing related, detailed activities, written to support children with developing conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction. The materials build on understanding developed in KS1 (and explored within the From Counting to Calculating intervention materials), covering the key ideas related to additive reasoning in the National Curriculum from Y2 to the end of Y4.
This training package explores how to use the materials to run an intensive eleven week intervention programme to support children who are working significantly below age-related expectations in KS2, KS3 and beyond. The training package includes an initial half day on diagnostic assessments (assessment materials provided), two full days focussed on subject knowledge and pedagogy related to additive reasoning, and a final half day at the end of the programme. The focus on subject knowledge and pedagogy includes:
‘ Understanding and using place value with two-digit and three-digit numbers
‘ Understanding and using the relationship between addition and subtraction with two-digit and three-digit numbers
‘ Applying understanding to add and subtract pairs of two-digit and three-digit numbers
Participants form learning partner pairs or trios and together participate in a visit with a maths adviser, to support their understanding of learning within the programme. This training is open to teachers or teaching assistants; in the case of the latter a link teacher is invited to join the first half day.
Two full days plus two half days, intervention materials and a learning partner visit – £395 Second place discounted for colleague from same school £345
"Weeks run from Monday to Sunday. Please note that weeks without communications to schools are ignored and the links will go to the last week where a communication was made in this category."
