Making sense of mastery in mathematics

Mastery has become a key aspect of the National Curriculum with a focus on all children understanding.
This course will explore how to provide all children with rich learning experiences by using tasks which focus on conceptual understanding whilst providing opportunities to practice. Exploration of the tasks will include considering how, by varying how they are introduced and varying the probing questions used, the same task can have a focus on different aspects of mathematics and can provide opportunities for children to deepen and extend their understanding. Variation will also be explored through considering multiple entry points, multiple ways of seeing and multiple pathways and strategies for solutions.
