Lower Street, Dartmouth – resurfacing
What are we doing?
Resurfacing will take place along Lower Street and South Embankment, Dartmouth. This will also include Fairfax Place, Cole’s Street and access to Lower Ferry slipway.
To enable us to carry out this work safely we will be closing the roads to traffic, however, pedestrian access will be maintained.
The work will take place from 18 to 22 November, between the hours of 9.30am and 4.00pm each day. The roads will be open each evening from 4.00pm. Please note that this work is weather dependent so dates/times may be subject to change.
What traffic management will we use?
A road closure will be in place for the majority of this work. While roads are closed a local signed diversion route will be in place via Hauley Road and Spithead.
Shops and businesses will be open as usual during the work. Pedestrian access will be maintained to those shops and businesses. However, there will be no parking on South Embankment from 18 to 22 November.
There will no access to the Lower Ferry between 9.30am and 4.00pm on Tuesday 19 November and ferry services will be suspended during this time.
A plan of the closure and schedule of work can be found here.
Why are doing this work?
We have assessed the condition of the existing road surface in line with our asset management principles and have prioritised this section for repair. This work is needed to ensure the road is maintained in a safe condition.
Why do we have to close the road?
We must ensure the safety of our workforce and the public in order to comply with our safety guidelines, we are therefore unable to carry out this work without a road closure.
