Roadworks

Resurfacing High Street, Great Torrington

What are we doing?

Repair and resurfacing of footpaths will take place along High Street and Fore Street, Great Torrington. This work will include relaying many of the existing paving blocks and replacing those that are damaged. We will also be relaying some kerbs to improve pedestrian crossing points and relaying some sections of the road surface.

The work will start on Monday 7 October for up to 4 weeks, working Monday to Friday with some operations taking place on Sundays when some shops will be closed.

To enable us to carry out this work safely we will be closing the road to traffic. However, pedestrian access to shops and businesses will be maintained.

Please note that some of this work is weather dependent so durations may vary.

What traffic management will we use?

A road closure will be in place for the majority of this work. While the road is closed, a signed diversion route will be in place.

Shops and businesses will be open as usual during the works, pedestrian access will be maintained. Some of the work will be carried out during the evenings or early mornings to ensure access is maintained to shops during normal opening hours.

A plan of the closure and diversion route can be found here.

Why are we doing this work?

We have assessed the condition of the existing footpath surface in line with our asset management principles and have prioritised this section for repair. This work is needed to ensure the footpath and road is maintained in a safe condition.

Why do we have to close the road?

We must ensure the safety of our workforce and the public, in order to comply with our safety guidelines we are unable to carry out this work without a road closure.

We apologise for any inconvenience this essential work causes and assure you that we are doing our best to minimise disruption wherever possible.
