A386 The Quay, Bideford – Resurfacing
What are we doing?
We are resurfacing a section of the A386 The Quay between the Royal Mail depot and the roundabout at the Old Bideford Bridge, as it has reached the end of its serviceable life. The resurfacing work will be carried out in a week of night-time road closures.
Before we resurface, we are also taking the opportunity to do some preparatory footway improvement works, which will require a series of road closures and a short section of traffic lights to selected side junctions with The Quay.
When will traffic signals be in operation and when are we closing the road?
|Start Date||End Date||Traffic Management|
|05/08/19||06/08/19||Road closure – High Street junction with The Quay- Night time (19.00 – 7.00) only, Monday to Tuesday|
|05/08/19||09/08/19||24hr Traffic Signals – Jubilee Square junction with The Quay, Monday to Friday|
|08/08/19||09/08/19||Road closure – Bridgeland Street junction with The Quay- Night time (19.00 – 7.00) only, Thursday to Friday|
|12/08/19||16/08/19||Road closure – A386 The Quay from the Royal Mail Depot to the roundabout at Old Bideford Bridge- Night time (19.00 – 7.00) only, Monday to Friday|
Why do we need to close the road?
We must ensure the safety of our workforce and the public, and in order to comply with our safety guidelines we are unable to carry out this work without a road closure.
Why are we doing these works during the summer holidays?
The road surface on the Quay is in need of repair. We have programmed this work to take place prior to the Carnival Day in September.
How is local traffic being handled?
A signed diversion route will be in place. Where the only access to residences and businesses is through the road closure access will be permitted although people may be asked to wait a short time until it is safe to pass. Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles.
If required updates will be posted on this page and on the Devon County Council Facebook and Twitter pages.
