A377 Newton St Cyres
Resurfacing work is being carried out along the A377 at two locations within Newton St Cyres in May.
- Section 1: Road from Newton St Cyres Primary School, Sand Down Lane to Quickes Cheeses – starting on 1 May until 12 May (no working on bank holiday Monday).
- Section 2: Half Moon Village – starting on 13 May for 3 nights.
All work will be carried out overnight, 7.00pm – 7.00am Monday to Friday, in an attempt to reduce disruption to traffic.
This work was originally delayed to allow Wales and West to carry out gas works on the A377.
Why do we have to close the road?
We must ensure the safety of our workforce and the public, and in order to comply with our safety guidelines, we are unable to carry out this work without a road closure.
We have to give our workforce a safe working zone, however, we have arranged for the work to be undertaken overnight in order to reduce the disruption to road users to the minimum.
Why is there such a long diversion route?
We have a duty to direct traffic along a similar standard of road to that being closed so that all vehicles, including large articulated vehicles, can safely use the diversion route. Lighter traffic with good knowledge of the area will be able to use local roads to take shorter routes around the closure.
