A361 Brembridge Viaduct

What are we doing?

Carriageway surface dressing work (including road markings and road studs) will take place along the A361 North of South Molton, from Northgate roundabout towards Barnstaple. The work is due to start on 18 June (weather dependent).

What traffic management are we using?

Road closures will be in place while surfacing operations take place. Where possible we will work at night to minimise disruption to traffic.

The schedule of closures is as follows:

  • 18 and 19 June – Night closures – 7pm to 5am
  • 20 June – Day closure – 5am to 5pm
  • 21, 24 and 26 June – Night closures 8pm to 2am
  • 1 and 2 July – Night closures 8pm to 2am

While the road is closed a diversion route will be signed via Filleigh, Swimbridge, Landkey and vice versa.

A temporary parking restriction will be in place along the diversion route. Advanced notice signs will be erected at the locations at least 7 days before the work is due to start to advise residents and road users of closure dates.

A plan of the closure and diversion route can be found here.

Why are we doing this work?

The work will seal the surface of the road to protect it against frost and water damage. The work will also refresh skid resistance thereby making the road safer.

Why do we need to close the road?

We must ensure the safety of our workforce and the public, and in order to comply with our safety guidelines, we are unable to carry out this work without a road closure.  However, we aim to minimise road closures wherever possible in order to reduce the disruption to road users.

We apologise for any inconvenience this essential work causes and assure you that we are doing our best to minimise disruption wherever possible.
