Polsloe Road, Exeter – Cycle Facility and Crossing
Why are we doing this?
Devon County Council is undertaking a consultation to understand resident’s views on the proposed improvements to the pedestrian and cyclist facilities on and along Polsloe Road. These proposed improvements would form part of the E3 strategic cycle route connecting Redhayes Bridge to the city centre via Whipton and Heavitree, and include:
- Installing a parallel crossing for cyclists and pedestrians on Polsloe Road to the south of its junction with Gladstone Road.
- A new cycle facility cycle lane on the east side of Polsloe Road between the new parallel crossing and Regents park.
- Installing an island on the western end of Regents Park to protect cyclist.
- Construct a footway buildout on the south side of Gladstone Road at its junction with Polsloe
The new crossing and cycle facility in Polsloe Road would require the removal of the parking on the east side between Regents Park and South Avenue. To mitigate this loss, changes are proposed to allow an additional space in South Avenue and to allow S2 permit holders to park within the pay & display bay in Gladstone Road.

Why should I respond?
It is important that we know the current views of everyone who might be affected by the proposed changes to the road layout and parking bays. Your response will contribute to the final decision. Residents have received information in the post with details of the consultation and how to respond.
The consultation was between17 September until 22 October 2020.
What happens next?
Following the consultation, all responses from the public will be summarised and reported to the Exeter Highway and Traffic Orders Committee for a decision as to whether the improvements will be brought forward.
