{"id":510,"date":"2014-09-24T17:15:18","date_gmt":"2014-09-24T16:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roadsandtransport\/make-a-request\/brown-tourism-sign\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T14:25:55","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T14:25:55","slug":"brown-tourism-sign","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/make-a-request\/brown-tourism-sign\/","title":{"rendered":"Brown tourism sign"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Please note that due to staff resources, it is taking longer to assess brown tourism sign requests at this time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We cannot advise of timescales but will respond as soon as we can.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown tourist signs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>safely guide visitors to a tourist destination along the most appropriate route for the final stage of their journey<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>indicate attractions&nbsp;or facilities that a tourist would not reasonably expect to find in that location<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A tourist destination is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-dcc-alternative-2 is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8216;a permanent attraction or facility that attracts, or is used by, visitors to an area and is open to the public without prior booking during its normal opening hours.&#8217;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Tourists expect a signed destination to be open, therefore a minimum period of six hours a day, 180 days a year applies to normal opening hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Signs are provided to give essential directions where no existing direction signs can be followed.
