{"id":406,"date":"2014-09-19T12:35:13","date_gmt":"2014-09-19T11:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roadsandtransport\/make-a-request\/disabled-parking-bay\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T14:06:55","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T13:06:55","slug":"disabled-parking-bay","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/make-a-request\/disabled-parking-bay\/","title":{"rendered":"Disabled parking bay"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Under certain circumstances, we can provide one of two types of disabled parking bay for Blue Badge holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A formal space<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally found in town centres, these can also be placed in residential parking zones. The word &#8216;DISABLED&#8217; is written alongside the bay, and a restriction plate showing the blue disabled symbol is mounted next to the bay. They are covered by a traffic regulation order, which can be enforced by a civil enforcement officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An advisory space<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally provided where parking is at a premium in a residential area not controlled by waiting restrictions. Advisory bays are marked with the word &#8216;DISABLED&#8217;, but they don\u2019t have a restriction plate showing the blue disabled symbol accompanying them. They can\u2019t be enforced and no action can be taken against anyone else who parks there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No bays can be provided solely for an individual &#8211; they are available for any Blue Badge Holder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apply for a disabled parking bay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to apply for a disabled parking bay:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>you must be a Blue Badge holder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you must be the driver, or regular passenger, of the vehicle the space is needed for<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the vehicle must be based at your property and the driver must also be resident<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>there must be no off-street parking available at or near your property<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We will normally only approve a bay where there is a known parking issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are eligible, an initial assessment will be made by our Customer Service Centre to identify a suitable location for the bay. This will be subject to an on-site assessment to ensure that the bay can be safely and practically sited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If, after surveying the site it is found that a bay cannot be marked due to existing parking restrictions, road safety or traffic management issues you will be contacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The marking of advisory bays can take 16 to 20 weeks.
