The highway includes the road, pavement or verge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Types of work that could require a licence include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>depositing materials such as bricks and bags of sand or equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>house maintenance or building or repairing a boundary wall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>carrying out tree works<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>using traffic lights, stop-and-go boards or other traffic management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional licences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to close the road you will need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/make-a-request\/temporary-traffic-restrictions\/\">apply for a temporary traffic restriction<\/a>. If your work requires excavations you will need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/make-a-request\/apparatus-and-excavating-the-highway\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"864\">apply for a&nbsp;licence for apparatus and excavating the highway<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please do not submit a minor works on the highway application if you require either of these licences. If you are unsure, please call <a href=\"tel:01392385084\">01392 385084<\/a> for advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need to apply for specific licences if you want to place a skip, scaffold, or other structure on the highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cost<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A licence costs \u00a3169. An extension, date change or amendment to an existing licence costs \u00a3113. Application costs are exempt from tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the work involved has an impact on a pay or display parking bay or other on-street parking then the costs will be recovered from the applicant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please ensure that you apply for the correct licence as incorrect applications may be subject to an administrative fee. Refunds may be issued in line with our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/highways-traffic-management-refund-guidance\/\">refund guidance<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Timescales<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We need a minimum of 20 days\u2019 notice to process the application.
