{"id":27039,"date":"2026-07-22T11:38:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T10:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/?page_id=27039"},"modified":"2026-08-11T08:09:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T07:09:32","slug":"a396-stoke-road","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/traffic-information\/roadworks\/a396-stoke-road\/","title":{"rendered":"A396 Stoke Road"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What we are doing <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between Monday 17 to Friday 28 August 2026 Devon County Council will be carrying out essential stabilisation works on the A396, Stoke Road from the junction with Pennsylvania Road to approximately 0.2 miles towards its junction with Stoke Hill Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The road has suffered from cracking and sinking for several years, and the damage has recently become more severe. To stabilise the area, a specialist support structure will be built along the edge of the road. The road will then be rebuilt, and a new Devon hedge bank will be created above the structure. Drainage pipes will also be installed to help manage water and protect the road in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The highway requires maintenance and these essential repairs will help restore the surface and improve safety of the traveling public. We aim to minimise disruption by keeping road closures to a minimum and are undertaking the majority of these works under two-way lights, but at certain stages a closure is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Road closure <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To enable the piling works we need to excavate the road and bank; and for this a full road closure is required. This will take place between Monday 17 to Friday 28 August 2026 (both dates inclusive). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The below map shows where the closure will be along the  A396:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/160\/2026\/08\/image-5-800x540.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/160\/2026\/08\/image-5-800x540.png 800w, https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/160\/2026\/08\/image-5-300x203.png 300w, https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/160\/2026\/08\/image-5-768x518.png 768w, https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/160\/2026\/08\/image-5-640x432.png 640w, https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/roads-and-transport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/160\/2026\/08\/image-5.png 920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More information on the diversion route can be found via <a href=\"https:\/\/one.network\/?GB150882236\" rel=\"noopener\">one.network<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The road will be completely closed to all vehicles and pedestrians, 24 hours a day, while the main works are carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After the road closure <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the road closure, the remaining construction work will be completed under temporary two-way traffic lights. We expect this to take around 3 to 4 months, although the timescale may change depending on conditions on site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once this work is finished, there will be a further short road closure of up to one week so that resurfacing and road markings can be completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this period a speed restriction of 30mph will be imposed on all traffic along this area of road.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What we are doing Between Monday 17 to Friday 28 August 2026 Devon County Council will be carrying out essential stabilisation works on the A396, Stoke Road from the junction with Pennsylvania Road to approximately 0.2 miles towards its junction with Stoke Hill Road.
