This review is being undertaken in response to the functional understanding of the existing restrictions, expansion of the town and specific traffic congestion challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Parish Engagement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During 2023 Chagford Parish Council (supported by Devon County Council) undertook an engagement exercise to consider two possible ways forward for the parking scheme within Chagford. The two options considered were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-f5cbaff4 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Option 1 \u2013 Extension of the existing Restricted Parking Zone<br>Option 2 \u2013 Reduction of the existing Restricted Parking Zone plus Targeted No Waiting At Any Time restrictions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was concluded from the responses that Option 2 would be progressed. These proposals aim to reduce the existing Restricted Parking Zone (signposted area where vehicles can only park in marked bays) to the immediate town centre roads of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Square<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mill Street<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High Street<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Southcombe Street<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Street (to Stannary Walk)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opposite Jubilee Hall<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No Waiting At Any Time restrictions are also proposed at strategic locations where parking issues have been identified, including parking at chokepoints along narrow roads and obstructing visibility at junctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some further amendments are being made to Loading Only Bays, the introduction of a new coach parking space close to Chagford C of E Primary School, and access protection markings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Devon County Council have carried out the statutory consultation of the proposed Traffic Regulation Order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consultation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The consultation period ran from 5 June until 26 June 2025 and has now ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consultation Documents<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/app-trafficorders-live.devon.gov.uk\/Home\/Document\/24446\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5686 Advert &amp; Statement of Reasons<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/devoncc.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/s\/PublicDocs\/Highways\/EeJtp_VeVQFGnI6RcTmcbAwBePQK2EV3PY0MREBRtXIpNg?e=HceFqY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5686 Draft Plan<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/app-trafficorders-live.devon.gov.uk\/Home\/Document\/24447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5686 Draft Order<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Printed copies of these documents were available from the Parish Council throughout the duration of the consultation period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Steps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the consultation the responses submitted were considered by the <a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.devon.gov.uk\/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=180&amp;MId=5236&amp;Ver=4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">West Devon Highways and Traffic Order Committee on 3 December 2025<\/a> where it was resolved that a further meeting be held with the Parish Council and Councillors before the final decision is made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This meeting took place in February with agreement to proceed in line with the recommendations in the report<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Proposals to reduce the restricted parking zone and introduce double yellow lines are not progressed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Approve the making and part sealing of the traffic order to introduce the bus only bays as advertised, amend the goods vehicles loading only bays to loading only bays Mon-Sat 9am-5pm 30min max stay, amend the length of permit holder bay to limited waiting Mon-Sat 9am-5pm 2 hours no return within 4 hours (as the post office is no longer here) and to introduce other localised restrictions within the order as required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve signing (zone gateway and repeaters) and <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refresh existing markings as part of a maintenance programme.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sealed Documents<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/devoncc.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/s\/PublicDocs\/Highways\/IQD-PRuZByMRTZNXuzm7JBrFATi7Dj3U-oWGfgkJe2QIy9A?e=D9GPeC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5686 Notice of Making<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/devoncc.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/s\/PublicDocs\/Highways\/IQCQhHZqtY0BQJAa6pBYCJL_AbvU7ohEvA2wPD-DuWhi0DM?e=1mHIBe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5686 Sealed Order<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/devoncc.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/s\/PublicDocs\/Highways\/IQBCdXQSMZNdTJ3ofZHSFBjjAaOsfoo-iPIRLE97mDGqOOQ?e=qtQovB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5686 Sealed Plan<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The works are currently underway to implement these proposals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Devon County Council is undertaking a review of the parking restrictions within the town of Chagford.
