Parking

Proposed Pay and Display

Introduction

In November 2022, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Committee approved the development of proposals for pay and display restrictions in eight communities across Devon. It is proposed to convert existing limited waiting bays to pay and display bays.

These restrictions are proposed to;

  • manage congestion
  • improve air quality
  • provide a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists
  • maintain reasonable access to premises

The proposals are for communities which do not already have (or have very little) pay and display. The proposals are located in busy town centres where vehicles often spend time circulating looking for parking places and where off-street parking is available.

Details of the Cabinet meeting and report can be found on our website.

A frequently asked questions (FAQ) document has been put together to explain more about proposals and how on-street parking is managed.

What happens next?

All comments received in response to the consultation were summarised and included in a report for Cabinet. The report was taken to Cabinet on 13th March recommending that we do not proceed with the proposals for pay and display in any of the communities listed above. It was also resolved that that proposals from the communities be invited, on how they would wish to address their parking issues, so that joint sustainable solutions can be developed in the future.
