What is the EU Settlement Scheme?
If you’re a European Union (EU) citizen, you and your family may be able to get either settled or pre-settled status.
This will mean you can continue living in the UK after 31 December 2020. More information about the Scheme is available on GOV.UK.
We are providing an identity document scanning service for people applying to the EU Settlement Scheme who do not have access to an Android device.
Who can apply?
This service is available to resident EU citizens with a valid EU passport, and to their non-EU citizen family members with a biometric residence card issued by the UK.
If you do not have access to an Android device with near field communication (NFC), you can make an appointment to bring your passport or biometric residence card to us, where it can be scanned and verified for you.
The purpose of the scan is to confirm your identity so that you will be able to make an application to the EU Settlement Scheme. You must not start your application before you attend your appointment.

What to bring to your appointment
- Your current valid EU passport or valid biometric residence card.
- A mobile phone that can receive text messages or a device that can receive email.
Please note: this service does not currently accept national identity cards. Only the identity documents listed above can be checked. We will not need to keep your identity document and in most cases, you will not be asked to send it anywhere else during your application.
The cost of the identity document scanning service is £14 (including VAT).
In some cases, the Home Office may ask you to attend a further appointment or send in your identity document for a decision to be made on your application.
