{"id":21,"date":"2013-10-14T14:09:45","date_gmt":"2013-10-14T13:09:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beta.devon.gov.uk\/registrationservice\/apply-for-a-copy-certificate\/"},"modified":"2026-04-27T13:29:45","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T12:29:45","slug":"apply-for-a-copy-certificate","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/registration-service\/certificates\/apply-for-a-copy-certificate\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply for a copy certificate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our records<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Devon Registration Service holds registers for births, deaths, and marriages in Devon dating back to July 1837.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baptismal, marriage and burial registers before 1837 may be held by the local clergy or Devon Heritage Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You can also use this service to apply for a certificate for your church wedding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before you start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-default is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do not use this service if:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>you want a copy of a certificate for the Plymouth or Torbay area &#8211; apply directly to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouth.gov.uk\/birthsmarriagesanddeaths\/buycopycertificate\" rel=\"noopener\">Plymouth City Council<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbay.gov.uk\/registrar\/copy-certificates\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Torbay Council<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you want a<strong> <\/strong>copy of a civil partnership certificate &#8211; apply for these using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gro.gov.uk\/gro\/content\/certificates\/login.asp\" rel=\"noopener\">the General Register Office website<\/a> instead<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Before a search of the records is made you will need to provide the:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>full name of the person(s) included in the registration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>date of the event including day, month and year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>location of the event, for example, town or village<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please be aware our standard delivery service may take up to seven days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Costs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All certificates cost \u00a312.50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A priority service whereby certificates are posted out on the same day costs \u00a338.50 (including the cost of the certificate). Please note that despite certificates being sent by first-class post on the same day, due to circumstances out of our control there are often delays in the certificates being received.
