Funded training

Funded training by the Eastern Care Services Team, Oral Health Team and more! The training is available to Registered Care Homes and Care Providers in Mid Devon, East Devon and Exeter.

The Eastern Care Services Team work in Care Settings. We have specialist roles in Safeguarding and Education to support the needs of these services. The whole team aim to provide positive outcomes for residents / care service users, their families and friends. We also support staff, providers and Health Professionals involved within these settings.

eLearning

Devon County Council have partnered with Flourish previously called Grey Matter Learning to provide part funded social care courses for all providers in the Devon catchment area, this is 2/3 funded. The platform allows users access to over 130 social care eLearning courses, all in one place! To sign up for an account, please contact the team. Select contact us and will in the required details and add that you would like an account under the Devon County Council funding. A member of the team will then be in touch with you to set up an account.

End of life Care

End of Life Care including Syringe Driver training from Hospiscare. They are a charity providing specialist care to patients and their families living with life-limiting illnesses across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. We offer a range of learning opportunities to support staff of all levels to feel confident in delivering excellent end of life care. Our specialist staff come with a wealth of clinical knowledge backed up by real life experience of caring for dying people.

We offer courses in all aspects of end of life care such as Introduction to Palliative Care, Advance Care Planning, Syringe Pump Training, Verification of Expected Death and Advanced Communication.

These courses can be tailored to suit clinical and non-clinical staff in acute, community and social care settings. External colleagues can book onto our existing training programme at Searle House in the grounds of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (Wonford) or we can create bespoke courses to meet the needs of your staff and patients. Devon Palliative and End of Life Care and Bereavement

One Devon resource, NHS Devon aims to deliver Palliative and End of Life Care services across Devon that are sustainable and consistent in terms of access, experience and outcome for individuals, their families and those delivering EOL Care.

Falls Prevention Training in Care Homes

The Care Home Falls Prevention Team with Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is offering free training on Falls Prevention & Awareness for Care Homes. This training will be delivered in Exeter, East & Mid Devon and will include: –

  • How to identify a resident at risk of falling
  • What actions should be taken to reduce their risk of falling
  • If someone fell, which service is appropriate?
  • Signposting to services & useful resources
  • Safe floor retrieval
  • We will also include a Falls Resource Pack for your home

The training is designed to be delivered face-to-face (whilst adhering to strict COVID-19 infection control precautions). Follow up and support sessions will be offered as part of the training.

  • The oral health improvement team are offering Free training! We provide training to care workers responsible for the oral health of both children and adults. The Community Infection Management Service (CIMS) has limited capacity for bespoke sessions, but Care Homes can request the following for consideration:

  • Support to Infection Prevention links
  • Leads and to new managers regarding standards
  • Systems and On-site visits to care providers to review IP&C systems in place and to provide informal clinical facilitation to staff in hand hygiene and PPE use.

The Community Infection Management Service (Eastern) has started providing WINTER PREPAREDNESS sessions every Friday afternoon from 13.30 until 14.45 via MSTeams. The session is suitable for care home settings and contains content about acute respiratory infections, like ‘flu and COVID-19, as well as Norovirus. Infection control precautions as aspects of outbreak management are discussed in this informal session. They will run every Friday until Christmas and staff can drop in and out once they have the link; there is no limit to the number that can attend. Please e-mail the team on: rduh.infectioncontrol-eastern@nhs.net to request the Link and come and join us for a catch-up.The team are also providing the session for small groups of staff in care homes as their capacity allows, so please email them if you would like to be considered for in-person training

Quality Assurance and Improvement Team

The Quality Assurance and Improvement Team at Devon County Council offers a free support service which includes:

  • Helping you to identify the reason(s) for any non-compliance following a CQC Inspection and supporting you to develop an action plan to enable you to return to compliance
  • Helping to identify where systems and processes are not effective and where improvements can be made
  • Providing you with supportive resources, advice, guidance and information on improving quality in all aspects of your service provision
  • Supporting you to develop and implement an effective quality assurance programme that will provide long term benefits in maintaining the quality of your service
  • Prioritised referrals to leadership and management development training.
