Devon County Council (DCC) is seeking to increase the capacity of specialist nursing home beds in the county. This increase will be provided by building new, modern, purpose built homes that can meet the needs of people with high end complex needs. These new homes will operate efficiently, effectively and sustainably in terms of staff, management, design and deployment.
DCC is seeking interest from nursing care home providers to build and run these, new, modern and efficient nursing homes.
DCC has identified a capital budget of £2.5m to give support to the successful nursing care home provider(s).
The Council is seeking to secure nomination rights to up to 50% of any beds in new nursing homes (with a minimum of 60 beds per new home total capacity). Fees would be paid in line with the Council’s fee model in place at the time.
The exact number of beds required and geographic locations are subject to the completion of updated demand profiles, needs analysis and provider feedback. It is anticipated that DCC will require extra capacity in the market in up to 5 locations across Devon.
It is imperative that the homes are built in the correct location and using modern technologies and design/environmental best practices. The homes must be designed in compliance with all statutory requirements and be registered with CQC as Care Homes with Nursing. Thought should be given to sustainability and the built environment in terms of flexibly meeting current and future needs.
The type and complexity of need expected to be met within the additional nursing home capacity includes, but is not limited to:
A market engagement event will be held near Exeter on Wednesday 21st March 2018, 12noon to 4pm. The event is aimed at nursing home providers to engage with them to inform the Council’s tender specification and offer to the market.
