Spooky crafts and Halloween fun at Yeo Valley Woodland

Posted on: 18 October 2018

Enjoy some spooky family fun at Barnstaple’s Yeo Valley Woodland this Halloween.

Spend the afternoon carving pumpkins, making spooky crafts with Mrs Recycle and building nest boxes for the woodland at North Devon Council’s award-winning community woodland. Enjoy a BBQ and refreshments in the open air at this fun family event. Come in your creepiest costume and you could win a prize!

The Halloween event takes place on Sunday 28 October from 3-6pm. Pumpkin carving is £2.50, nest boxes for the woodland are free to make, however if you want to take yours home there is a charge of £3. All proceeds go towards the Children’s Summer Club and Friends of Yeo Valley Community Woodland.

Executive Member for Parks, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Dick Jones, says: “The Halloween event at Yeo Valley is always a lot of fun, so get your wellies and witches hat on and head down to the woodland this half-term. There will be a barbecue and lots to do as a family as well as the opportunity to find out more about our award-winning woodland and how you can get involved in the Friends group.”

Local ward member, Councillor Ian Roome, says: “This event is always one to attend with all the family to have some spooky fun and games. It’s a great opportunity to come along and see this award winning woodland at night whilst carving pumpkins and making Halloween treats.”

Local ward member, Councillor Joy Cann, says: “Please come along and support this ‘spooktacular’ event. The Yeo Valley Woodland is well worth a visit and with these activities on offer makes it a fun afternoon for all the family.”

Yeo Valley Woodland is situated off Silverwood Heights, Barnstaple. There is no parking at the woodland, but visitors coming by car are advised to park carefully in Derby Road and use the entrance beyond the Kingdom Hall.

Is there going to be pumpkin carving etc this year at the woodland? A spooky walk? Barbecue and games in the evening?

Hi Cath, this is usually an annual event so I expect that plans are being made for the 2019 event. Keep an eye on the North Devon Council social media pages over the next few weeks as it is bound to be posted on there nearer the time.
