Popular Combe Martin play area set for improvements

Arnolds Plot play area in Combe Martin is going to be improved thanks to a grant from North Devon Council.

At a meeting of North Devon Council’s Executive committee on Monday 2 July, £3,991.90 of S106* public open space funds were released for the improvement.  The funds will be used to purchase and install a timber frame double swing with flat seats and all the necessary safety surfacing required.

It is hoped that the installation can take place in time for use within the school summer holidays.

Councillor Yvette Gubb says, “Councillor John Lovering and I are ward members for Combe Martin and we are both delighted that we’ll be getting some extra funding to make improvements at Arnolds Plot, it’s great news for the local families who enjoy the play area.”

Executive Member for Parks, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Dick Jones, says: “This section 106 funding, which has come from the Lavercombe development, allows the council to give something back to the community of Combe Martin and will provide an improvement to the existing play area for the children to use and enjoy for years to come.”

*Section 106 (S106) is money paid to the council by developers as part of the planning conditions of planning applications. The money can only be used for certain things, but is used primarily for public open space projects.
