Funding agreed for Marwood Community Hall project

Posted on: 9 January 2018

Marwood Community Hall will soon have a make-over thanks to over £17,000 of funding from North Devon Council.

North Devon Council’s Executive has today (Monday 8 January) approved the release of over £17,000 of S106* funding for enhancements including: landscaping the exterior space around the hall, creation of an outdoor seating area, installing solar panels and new black out blinds.

Executive Member for parks, leisure and culture, Councillor Dick Jones, says: “I’m very pleased to see this funding distributed towards village hall improvements for Marwood. S106 contributions, made as part of major planning applications, allow the council to give something back to the community and help projects to receive funding that can be vital to help provide much needed facilities.”

Ward member, Councillor Joe Tucker, says “I have always supported the Marwood
Community Hall project. It is a great asset for the community and the village school.
The £17,000 S106 monies from the development in Prixford will help to put the
finishing touches to this building. I would also like to thank the Chairman and officers who look after this Community building, most sincerely, for the vast amount of work it entails.”

*Section 106 (S106) is money paid to the council by developers as part of the planning conditions of planning applications. The money can only be used for certain things, but is used primarily for public open space projects.
