Plans are in place for another exciting Local Democracy Week

Posted on: 3 October 2017

Final arrangements are being made to plans for another exciting Local Democracy Week (LDW) across North Devon.

Officers and councillors at North Devon Council have once again been busy arranging a variety of activities and events for pupils from local schools and colleges across the district to take part in. LDW is an opportunity for pupils to find out all about local politics as well as raise awareness of the power they will have in the future to shape their communities through it.

LDW kicks off on Monday 9 October (2017) with events planned including:

  • ‘Question Time’, an opportunity for pupils to quiz councillors and representatives from local businesses and organisations including the NHS, Police and the media
  • political speed dating, pupils have four minutes to quiz each councillor on any subject
  • ‘back to the classroom’ visits for councillors

Leader of North Devon Council, Councillor David Brailey, says: “Local Democracy Week is a favourite of mine. It’s so important for the council to get out there and meet young people and talk about what the council does and the services that we provide. Everyone involved always has a great time and the council learns a lot about what is important to them during the activities.”

Pupils from The Park Community School in Barnstaple, Pilton Community College, Braunton Academy, West Buckland School, Holywell C of E Primary School in Tawstock and Bratton Fleming Community Primary School are taking part in LDW events.

Keep up to date with the week’s events by following the council on twitter.
