We have unveiled our plans for the year ahead as we prepare for one of the biggest changes to local government in the county’s history.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new Annual Delivery Plan\u00a0setting\u00a0out how we\u00a0will\u00a0maintain\u00a0safe and reliable services, protect key improvement\u00a0programmes\u00a0and prepare the organisation for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)\u00a0was approved\u00a0by our Cabinet today (Wednesday 15 July).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Government is expected to announce its preferred option to replace Devon’s current two-tier system of local government with new unitary authorities imminently.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our delivery plan has therefore been designed to remain flexible so that activities can be adapted as more detail becomes available to prepare for a safe and smooth transition to any future local government arrangements.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, our priorities\u00a0remain\u00a0unchanged, with a continued focus on children and families, supporting people to live independently, improving services, tackling climate change, supporting economic\u00a0prosperity\u00a0and strengthening communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Councillor Julian Brazil, Leader of Devon County Council, said:\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\r\n \t\t

\u201cWe know local government reorganisation will require a\u00a0huge\u00a0amount of work, but our residents rightly expect us to continue delivering essential services and driving improvement in areas such as children’s services, adult social care,\u00a0road\u00a0and transport\u00a0and support for\u00a0our\u00a0communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis plan helps us prioritise that work, and the services that people rely on every day,\u00a0by focussing on activity that will make the greatest difference to residents\u00a0while preparing responsibly for the significant organisational changes that lie ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever decisions are made nationally about the future shape of local government\u00a0in Devon, our priority remains clear \u2013 ensuring\u00a0our\u00a0services remain safe\u00a0and\u00a0reliable\u00a0for our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n

The Annual Delivery Plan also includes a performance and monitoring framework, with progress to be reported through regular Cabinet and scrutiny processes throughout the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
