{"id":70486,"date":"2026-07-14T17:19:56","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T16:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=70486"},"modified":"2026-07-14T17:26:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T16:26:07","slug":"dryden-road-set-reopen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/dryden-road-set-reopen\/","title":{"rendered":"Dryden Road set to reopen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The legal process to reopen Dryden Road in Exeter to two-way traffic is set to begin,\u00a0following\u00a0a decision by\u00a0Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee on Monday 13 July.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Councillors agreed to advertise a Traffic Regulation Order to&nbsp;revoke the current prohibition of&nbsp;motor vehicles&nbsp;on Dryden Road&nbsp;and extend the 20mph zone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once advertised, the order will be subject to a 28-day consultation. If no objections are received,&nbsp;it can&nbsp;be formally&nbsp;approved and work to reopen the road&nbsp;can&nbsp;begin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Councillors voted not to&nbsp;proceed&nbsp;with the Cycle Streets proposal recommended in the report. They&nbsp;instead agreed to&nbsp;develop&nbsp;traffic calming and&nbsp;safer&nbsp;walking and cycling measures for Dryden Road.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision gives the council a clear route towards reopening the road while shaping future proposals around the feedback received through the consultation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No final construction scheme has been approved at this stage, but&nbsp;further work will now be carried out&nbsp;to&nbsp;improve&nbsp;accessibility&nbsp;for everyone using the road.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The consultation received more than 3,000 responses, covering&nbsp;access for vehicles, road safety, walking and cycling, traffic on nearby streets and value for money.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officers will now develop more detailed proposals, which&nbsp;will brought&nbsp;back&nbsp;to the&nbsp;committee&nbsp;for consideration.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Budget&nbsp;for&nbsp;delivering&nbsp;the scheme will need&nbsp;to&nbsp;be confirmed&nbsp;by&nbsp;the Devon and Torbay Combined County Authority&nbsp;as part of its capital programme&nbsp;approval this autumn.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"block_acf-block-6a5662ff6fd6d\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right dcc grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Councillor Michael Mitchell, Chair of Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee, said:\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p>\u201cThis is a positive step forward for Dryden Road, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation\u00a0and to those who spoke at the meeting. shared as the&nbsp;work moves
