The route will extend from Bakers Park, pass through the existing hedgerow, cross the driveway to Bradley Manor, and connect through to Beverley Way, further strengthening safe and sustainable travel links.

Phase one, completed in 2024, delivered a new section of pathway alongside the tennis courts, road improvements at Steppes Meadow, and enhanced access at Bakers Park car park. This initial phase marked the first step in creating a safe and convenient alternative to Totnes Road, giving residents and visitors greater confidence to walk or cycle between the town centre and Ogwell.

Jointly delivered by us and Teignbridge District Council (TDC), the work for phase two will involve construction of a new shared-use path, along with associated drainage, boundary treatments, and landscaping where required.

A small temporary works compound will be established near Beverley Way to safely support construction activities. To accommodate this, access to on-street parking will not be permitted for the duration of the scheme at the end of Beverley Way opposite properties six to 12.

This next phase is funded through the Active Travel Fund, our Local Transport Plan grant, Homes England funding and Section 106 contributions administered by TDC.

Construction is expected to last around 10 weeks, subject to weather and site conditions. Normal working hours will be 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Local residents have been informed of the work, and every effort will be made to minimise noise and disruption. Safe access will be maintained wherever possible, and emergency access will always be available.

Councillor Jacqi Hodgson, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Biodiversity, said:

“We’re pleased to be working with Teignbridge District Council on this project and it’s really good news that work is starting on this key active travel route.
