Libraries Unlimited – the charity that runs our libraries in Devon on our behalf – is inviting\u00a0people\u00a0across Devon to come together for a series of special screenings of\u00a0Jo in the Water<\/em>\u00a0for Earth Day 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jo in the Water<\/em>\u00a0follows Exmouth swimmer\u00a0and campaigner,\u00a0Jo\u00a0Bateman,\u00a0as she\u00a0challenges\u00a0sewage dumping\u00a0and takes\u00a0legal action against\u00a0South West\u00a0Water.\u00a0What begins as a local story grows into an issue of national significance, affecting coastlines across the UK.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working in partnership with CAG Devon, the Community Lottery Fund and the filmmakers, Libraries Unlimited is using its network of libraries to turn this powerful Devon story into a shared community experience. The project is also supported by organisations Surfers Against Sewage and River Action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The screenings will take place in libraries and community spaces as part of Libraries Unlimited\u2019s Together for Tomorrow<\/em> climate action initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together for Tomorrow,<\/em> funded by the National Lottery Climate Action Fund, transforms libraries into hubs for local climate action. The project includes a range of initiatives, from workshops and repair caf\u00e9s to sustainability projects helping people turn ideas into practical change. The screenings form part of the programme\u2019s efforts to engage audiences directly with environmental issues affecting their local area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris Packham, Wildlife TV presenter and conservationist commented:\u202f\u201cJo inspires people\u2026 they realise that together we have a greater strength. In a shoal like this we become mighty.\u201d\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex Kittow, Chief Executive Officer, Libraries Unlimited said: \u201cLibraries have always been places where people come together to learn and share ideas. By hosting screenings of Jo in the Water<\/em> this Earth Day, we\u2019re creating space for communities across Devon to come together around an issue that affects us all – the health of our rivers and seas. This is a powerful local story with national importance, and we\u2019re proud that our libraries can help bring people together to be part of the conversation and the solution.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
