The BIG FIX is\u00a0back\u00a0this May and\u00a0is expected to bring\u00a0thousands of\u00a0broken household items\u00a0back to\u00a0life nationwide.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Running throughout the whole of May, The BIG FIX has one aim \u2013 to repair as many broken things as possible.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, coordinated by Devon County Council, sees volunteer menders breathe new life into broken items such as electronics, garden equipment, clothing, jewellery, clocks and much more to give them a new lease of life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to its huge success in previous years, The BIG FIX is now nationwide across the country for the sixth time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far 44 Repair Caf\u00e9s have signed up to take part this May, ranging from Jersey to the Orkney Islands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BIG FIX hopes to help people save money, not only by repairing old items but also passing on skills to fix their own items in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Repair Caf\u00e9s are increasing in popularity as people are becoming more budget and environmentally conscious. They are organised and run by volunteers who offer their time and talents to help mend broken items and keep them in use for longer. Volunteers also help greet visitors, supply tea and coffee and restock supplies of cakes and other tasty treats. <\/p>\n\n\n

Councillor Jacqi Hodgson, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Biodiversity, said: <\/p><\/div>\r\n \t\t

\u201cWe\u00a0now\u00a0have\u00a046\u00a0Repair Caf\u00e9s\u00a0running regular events\u00a0in Devon\u00a0alone, which is a\u00a0wonderful\u00a0demonstration of\u00a0local\u00a0communities coming together to\u00a0reduce waste,\u00a0share skills and\u00a0create a friendly, welcoming\u00a0space for\u00a0everyone.\u00a0There is a growing demand\u00a0to mend rather than replace,\u00a0especially in these tough financial times,\u00a0but many of us\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have the\u00a0knowledge,\u00a0confidence\u00a0or time to do it ourselves.\u00a0Repair caf\u00e9s\u00a0offer\u00a0volunteer\u00a0menders who, most of the time,\u00a0can get the job done and\u00a0keep\u00a0our items in use for longer.\u00a0The BIG\u00a0FIX\u00a0is a way of bringing all the\u00a0fantastic\u00a0Repair Caf\u00e9s\u00a0in the UK\u00a0together\u00a0to\u00a0showcase\u00a0the level of repairing that is happening across the country.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n

Throughout May last year, 147 Repair Caf\u00e9s and 1,130 volunteers took part in the BIG FIX, mending 2,308 items and saving 63 tonnes CO2e. Many cakes and biscuits were served alongside many more cups of tea and coffee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as the usual household items, menders also fixed a WW2 spitfire pilot helmet set, a child\u2019s ride-on electric vehicle, opera glasses, a hoverboard, a canoe buoyancy aid and a shrieking cuckoo clock, proving that nothing is too obscure! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
