{"id":69125,"date":"2026-03-17T11:00:53","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T11:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/?p=69125"},"modified":"2026-03-17T11:02:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T11:02:24","slug":"new-four-year-plan-agreed-strengthen-domestic-abuse-support-across-devon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devon.gov.uk\/news\/new-four-year-plan-agreed-strengthen-domestic-abuse-support-across-devon\/","title":{"rendered":"New four-year plan agreed to strengthen domestic abuse support across Devon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>A new four-year strategy to improve support for victims and survivors of domestic abuse living in safe accommodation has been approved by Devon County Council\u2019s Cabinet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Domestic Abuse Support in Safe Accommodation Strategic Plan 2026\u20132030 sets out how the council will meet its statutory duties under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, while responding to rising demand and increasingly complex needs across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan builds on learning from the current strategy and focuses on ensuring victims and their children can access high-quality, trauma\u2011informed support in safe and suitable accommodation to help them rebuild their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key priorities include the phased growth of supported safe accommodation, such as refuge, dispersed and specialist units, alongside a strengthened \u201cStaying Safe at Home\u201d sanctuary offer for those who choose to remain in their own homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strategy also commits to improved therapeutic support for both adults and children, better pathways for people facing additional barriers \u2013 including those with no recourse to public funds \u2013 and closer partnership working with district councils and housing providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The safe accommodation plan sits alongside, and as an integral part of, Devon\u2019s wider partnership <strong>I<\/strong>nterpersonal and Gender\u2011Based Violence and Abuse Strategy \u2013 <em>Safe Lives, Strong Communities<\/em> 2026\u201329, which brings public services, voluntary organisations and community partners together to deliver a coordinated, whole\u2011system response to abuse across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Delivery of the plan will be supported through the commissioned Devon Domestic Abuse Alliance service, which has been in place since April 2025. The strategy will be funded through existing Domestic Abuse Act resources and aligned budgets.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"block_acf-block-69b934bd19782\" class=\"councillor-quote align-right dcc grid-x\">\r\n\t<blockquote class=\"councillor-quote-blockquote medium-auto small-12 cell\">\r\n                    <div class=\"councillor-quote-title\"><p>Councillor Julian Brazil, Leader of Devon County Council, said that the plan demonstrated the council\u2019s commitment to protecting some of Devon\u2019s most vulnerable residents.<\/p><\/div>\r\n        \t\t<div class=\"councillor-quote-text\"><p>He said: &#8220;Domestic abuse has a devastating impact not just on individuals, but on families and communities. This strategy ensures that victims and survivors \u2013 including children and young people \u2013 can access safe accommodation and the right support at the right time. By working closely with our partners, we are strengthening our response and helping people to recover and move forward with their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n        <div
